At Yup, we currently tutor primarily through text and images. For students who might prefer to listen to a response instead, enable the text-to-speech on your iOS (version 8 and above) or Android device.
Set up for iOS:
- Go to your device’s settings
- Tap “Accessibility”
- Tap “Spoken Content”
- Toggle “Speak Selection” to "ON"
- Toggle “Speak Screen” to "ON"
- Select a voice (optional)
- Change speaking rate based on your preference
- Select “Typing Feedback” based on your preference
How to use text-to-speech for iOS:
- For speak selection: to hear the text you’ve selected, tap the Speak button.
- For speak screen: to hear the entire screen, swipe down with two fingers from the top of the screen. You can also ask Siri to speak screen!
Set up for Android:
- Go to your device’s settings
- Tap “Accessibility”
- Depending on your device, you may need to tap “Vision”
- Choose “Select to speak”
- Toggle the feature “ON” and confirm by tapping “OK” in the pop-up window
How to use Google text-to-speech:
- Tap the “text-to-speech” icon: you’ll see a red stop button appear, with a greyed-out button next to it
- Choose the speech you want read back to you
- Drag your finger across the screen if there is more than one section, or press the play button to have everything on the screen read back to you
- Tap the play button to begin the text-to-speech playback
